The Many Colors of Garnet

Garnet is found all over the world and in many varieties with Almandine being the most common.  Almandine is the second darkest garnet found in nature, next to Melanite, which is deep black with a hint of green.The Mohs hardness of Almandine Garnet is 7 – 7.5.  Almandine is commonly found in metamorphic rocks like schists and gneisses, often in association with minerals such as micas, quartz, and feldspars.
