Necklace #1
16 ¾”
This sweet faceted Amethyst tear drop is surrounded by 2mm faceted Amethyst beads accented with tiny Peridot and two Rubies with 14/20 gold filled metals. The strand ends with a line of petite Swarovski crystals.
Amethyst is the birthstone of February.
This minimalist design will look great as a first layer in your layered necklace look or by itself with your favorite tee. The gorgeous purple of Amethyst is always a favorite to have in your jewelry box.
Amethyst is one of my favorite stones to use as a designer, it never disappoints as one of nature’s truest gifts of color. I am always in awe of this fabulous semi-precious gemstone. Amethyst usually is a transparent variety of quartz that comes in shades of purple and violet.
Fun Info:
The name, Amethyst, derived from the Greek amethystos, “not intoxicated,“ expresses the ancient folk belief that the stone protects its owner against drunkenness. This belief may have been inspired by the wine-like colors of the gem, and dates back to the poet Asclepiades of Samos in 320 BC. In ancient writings the Latin name amethystus was used for amethyst, purple corundum, and purple garnet. Amethyst is the birthstone for February and is usually faceted with step cuts or emerald cuts, but it has been used for carved intaglios since ancient times. Amethyst is mentioned in the Bible (Exodus 28:19; 39:12) as one of the 12 stones adorning the breastplate (ḥoshen) of the high priests of Yahweh.
